Mika Has Something To Say...

I'd like to think that this little Public Service Announcement is fairly self-explanatory. I know a lot of people don't understand why we "expansionists" do what we do. I know this because every so often I get a PM or a comment on my main page asking (to some varying extent) "Excuse me but why all the chicks with huge bellies and stuff?"

To these people, I have no qualms. I'm sorry for not answering all of these questions, but after a while of so many of these I got tired of answering. To those who stil care to know, it is this:

I do it because I want to.

When you boil down all the various motivations behind why I do it, in the end, that is the one common factor. I choose to do so, and I enjoy it. I like it.

And some of you don't like it.

And that's cool. No really, the purpose of this drawing is not to tell you "No, you can't have a different opinion than us! We will not tolerate any differing thoughts about what we like." Because if that was what this image is about, that'd make me no better than the people that this image is partly meant for.

The Haters. These are people who are not content to merely dislike what we do. They feel it is their task...nay, their divine duty to troll and flame with hateful comments, and even in a few ludicrous examples, make their own attempts at expansion art to show just how much they indeed hate it!

And to these folks, I say...thank you.

Yes, you read right. I say this because even though your intent was to hurt or demean, the reason you did so was because on some level, either positively or negatively, what I drew moved you enough to act. And that gives me a certain feeling of schadenfreude, that I cherish so very, very much.

But I did say that this image was only partly for those people, because in truth it is very much meant to be an encouragement to fellow expansion lovers. Yeah, I know it sucks to get negative comments and flames after you work so hard on a drawing or a story. But think...how long have we been here? For me it's been over three years. Three years and they haven't been able to chase me away! And more and more new artists and writers are joining the community all the time.

So don't lose heart when the times are tough guys. And if you ever do need encouragement, we are a community for a reason...we can prop each other up when need be, and remind each other that we aren't in this crazy thing by ourselves.

And hey, maybe Mika here can give a little encouragement too.
